Vinkelkontaktkullager har inre och yttre ringbanor som är förskjutna i förhållande till varandra i lageraxelns riktning. Detta innebär att dessa lager är konstruerade för att klara kombinerade belastningar, dvs samtidigt verkande radiella och axiella belastningar. Den axiella belastningskapaciteten hos vinkelkontaktkullager ökar när kontaktvinkeln ökar. Kontaktvinkeln definieras som vinkeln mellan linjen som förbinder kulans kontaktpunkter och löpbanorna i det radiella planet, längs vilken den kombinerade belastningen överförs från en löpbana till en annan, och en linje vinkelrät mot lageraxeln.
